Today is June 30, 2014.

Total weight loss after 10 weeks: 6.2 lbs. (2,8 kg.)

In 10 weeks I went from 183 lbs. (83 kg.) to 176.8 lbs. (80,2 kg.)

It took a while for me to write another blog post. To be honest, I didn’t really have much to say anyway. The fact is that I have lost and I’m still losing weight and some people have noticed it.

The Importance Of Your Environment

One of the main reasons why I’m posting a new blost post today is to let you know that I’m back on Guam. When you’re in a different country and faced with a different culture, your (eating) habits will also be influenced.

It is often said that if your environment doesn’t promote healthy eating, chances that you’ll actually eat healthy will be slimmer. That’s why the Belgian (socialistic) government spends millions of tax euros on health prevention each year.

Statistics show that people in Belgium are amongst the most healthy people in the world. Although these health campaigns are meant to inform the public, I personally think the financial cost, time and energy being put in health prevention is exorbitant. (I have done my Psychology internship in a health prevention organization)

The fact is: if you want to change, you WILL change and nobody will need to motivate you. If you want information, just use the internet and you’ll get it for free! Just check your sources and don’t believe anything that’s being written online.

About Guam

Guam is an American tropical island in the Pacific that welcomes 1.2 million tourists a year. It is around 30 degrees Celcius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) all year long. It’s a great island to retire on and enjoy the sun, beach, food and sports. Although I still try to exercise every once in a while, you already know that sports has become almost impossible for me.

Needless to say that moving to an island like Guam doesn’t bring more structure in your life! Also, you can have takeway every minute of the day here. In this blog post I’ll try to give you an insight on what your weight loss challenges can be in a place like this.

There’s a lot more temptation here than at home in Europe where life for most people is pretty much the same boring thing every day: wake up, eat, shower, go to work, get home, eat, watch TV and go to sleep.

My lifestyle on Guam is a 100% different from the one in Europe. We get up late (around noon) and go to sleep after midnight. As a result there’s very little structure to be found in our lifestyle.

Irregular Meals

In the past I always gained weight while being on Guam. However, I realize that it’s mainly my own fault. There’s nothing wrong with going to a restaurant every day. It’s all about what you order and how much you eat or drink.

Guam is also packed with Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American fast food restaurants. We love to eat out. It’s important to order food consciously and not just eat because you like to eat, but only because you’re hungry.

Because of all the food temptations Guam is definitely not the ideal environment to eat healthy. In Europe we also plan our meals better. And it’s not that there are no (fast food) restaurants in Belgium… my family just doesn’t have a restaurant tradition (besides takeaways).

Only Eat When You’re Hungry

Some people are overweight because of one major reason: they eat because they want to and not because they feel hungry. Or they do feel hungry, but then overeat JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN and it sometimes comforts them (comfort eating). Luckily, products like Skinny Fiber can support you, however, it is not the magical solution. (magical solutions simply don’t exist)

Cook More At Home

We do cook at home on Guam, but in Europe we cook almost every single day. Home cooking is definitely the best way to keep control over what and how much you eat.

bbcWhen you’re preparing your own food, you also have full control over the ingredients and portion sizes. If you’re cooking yourself and still eating unhealty, you have no one to blame but yourself!

The island’s favorite dish is barbecue ((red) rice, potatoe salad, meat and other fat making stuff). When we barbecue we literally make food for the entire day. So it’s very tempting to just keep eating, although you’re already feeling full.

Skinny Fiber

I didn’t bring a bottle of Skinny Fiber with me, so I need to wait for my next shipment which should arrive within a couple of days. We like to eat here on the island, so I’ll have to find ways to still enjoy life, but also keep losing weight.

We usually have 2 large meals a day, around noon and in the evening. The most effective for me would be to take my Skinny Fiber in between meals. This will reduce my hunger during the day. Then it’s just up to me not to overeat, especially in the evening. In the morning and during the day I always try to consume a healthy portion of fruit too.
