In our information age there should be no excuses for why you’re not living a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, some people still don’t know how important it is for your health to make healthy choices.

And even those who think they are making healthy choices are often brainwashed by the food industry. Luckily, people are smart and can look for information online, which for instance leads them to my blog that provides tips and personal experiences.

But I’m Not A Doctor

When it comes to your long-term health, should always listen to your own body. When you have an urgent medical issue on the other hand, you should definitely consult a specialist. However, if you want to take care of your body in the long term, you simply need to have the right knowledge!

So you don’t need to be a doctor or other medical specialist to improve your health on a daily basis. Even simply learning to read and understand the list of ingredients on food packages for instance can make a huge impact on your health.

The following 4 tips are things that you can start doing right now to improve your health.

1. Consult a professional

If you have never been able to lose any weight, you should consider visiting a dietician or doctor who tests you on food intolerances and provides you with an adjusted diet.

If you don’t know what food intolerances are, you can read about how I found out about them and how an adjusted diet has influenced my life in a positive way.

2. Ban all sugar from your diet

Many studies have proven that your body doesn’t need more sugar that what natural foods provide you with. Sugar doesn’t not only make you fat, but it can also damage your immune system and cause chronic diseases.

It is advisable not to cheat on your sugar-free diet because as soon as you consume sugar again, your body might start to crave for it again. There’s no certainty that a sugar-free life will actually make you feel better. But think about this: people have been living sugar-free for thousands of years… I personally think that our bodies are not made to process all of this additional sugar.

3. Stop visiting (fast food) restaurants

improve your healthBan the location of your favorite (fast food) restaurants out of your mind. If you’re a regular customer at unhealthy restaurants, then it’s only because you have been taught to eat that way.

You didn’t get born as a fan of greasy burgers and supersized sodas. It’s the food industry that has been advertising this lifestyle for over a hundred years.

And by the way, don’t let the advertising mislead you. Even some of the restaurant chains who claim to serve healthy food often use all types of additives and other chemicals to keep the food “fresh” or make it “look better”.

I’m not saying you should never ever go to restaurants again, but be conscious about what you order and where you order it from.

3. Exercise

People often make the commitment to start exercising, but get bored quickly and eventually give up. The easiest way to stay committed and consistent is by doing things that you like.

If you don’t like running, you can look for a more fun activity that also burns just as much fat and calories, like dancing for example. Go through this list to find something that you enjoy and check how many calories the activity burns.

Having pain 24/7 is never pleasant, so maybe you are pushing yourself way too much. Take it slowly… even if it means that you are only walking 10 minutes a day… start with those 10 minutes and build it up gradually until your body is able to cope.

4. No excuses

One of the biggest excuses in the book is the my-family-doesn’t-support-me excuse. If you have ever used that excuse, then you should realize that other people have nothing to do with your mission.

Forget about what people think! You’re not doing this to please your family or friends. You’re doing this to become healthier!

And if you really need a buddy or family member to join and support you during your journey, then I personally think that you’re not ready. It’s fun to do things together, but remember that there are 2 sides to every story. You might encourage each other for a long time, but if one gives up, maybe the other will also consider giving up.

So although it’s an advantage when you have people around you that support you, your success will still depend on your inner motivation. Sit down, clear your mind and ask yourself: am I ready to do this?
